Ann Marie Gawel
Smith Fellow, Post-doctoral Researcher Research Interests: Conservation and ecology in Micronesia. Dr. Gawel is part of the David H. Smith Conservation Research Fellows Program through the Society for Conservation Biology. She is pictured here with Palau conservation staff, biologists, and rangers, and snail enthusiasts visiting Palau from Guam. As part of Ann Marie's fellowship, she is focused on the conservation of Mariana Islands partulid land snails. https://conbio.org/mini-sites/smith-fellows/meet-the-fellows/2022-fellows/ann-marie-gawel https://anngawel.wixsite.com/website E-mail: agawel@esf.edu Morgan Bullis Post-doctoral Researcher Research Interests: Conservation of the Chittenango ovate amber snail; northeastern terrestrial invertebrate diversity and conservation; phylogeny, morphological diversification, biogeography, and conservation of western Pacific endodontoid land snails; fossil land snails in amber. Joseph Makaure
Ph.D. candidate, Ecology Research Interests: Freshwater fish ecology, phylogeography, conservation, and evolution, especially in Zimbabwe and southern Africa E-mail: jmakaure@syr.edu Teresa Rose Osborne Ph.D. candidate, Ecology Research Interests: I study body size evolution in Pacific island land snails. I'm particularly interested in how phylogenetic history, abiotic pressures like microclimate and nutrient availability, and immigrant selection impact land snail body size. Comparing body sizes between snails of very different shapes has motivated me to develop new methods for measuring shell size. I am also interested in gastropod terrestrialization and land snail conservation. My undergraduate work at Pomona College (BA, Biology) examined estivation physiology and microhabitat use in southern California helminthoglypt land snails.
